BIOGAS METHANISATION & PURIFICATION PLANT

INTRODUCTION

India dumps about 36.5 million tonnes of waste annually. More than half of which is Biowaste.

Out of the total municipal waste collected, about 94% is dumped on land and barely 5% is composted.

It is estimated that the status of organic wastes would go up to 40% to 60% within 2025.

Waste when disposed carelessly will ultimately reach to us through food and water affecting the nation’s health as a whole.

Waste is a resource and it has a purpose. If utilized efficiently, waste is an asset.

USM UNICCARE, an organization established with the principal aim of protecting the environment by producing Biowaste to Bioenergy solutions.

ACTION POINT

The waste when utilized effectively can deliver valuable products.

The best approach to use bio waste is to feed it in Biogas plants.

A biogas plant can produce 40kg of Bio CNG from 1 MT of bio waste along with a number of bi-products.

What is biogas and where does it come from?

Biogas is a gas mixture that occurs when organic waste rots in oxygen-free environment (anaerobic digestion). Biogas formation occurs naturally for example in landfills, but in biogas plants it is produced in a controlled and efficient way from waste streams that would often be unused. Depending on the feedstock material, biogas is 50-70 % methane with excellent fuel properties. One cubic meter of methane is equivalent to one liter of diesel fuel, and requires about 7 kg of biowaste, for example. The rest of the gas mixture is mainly carbon dioxide.

Almost all organic materials, except wood, are suitable for biogas production. Typical input materials include:

Organic fractions of municipal solid waste

  Agricultural manure and energy crops

  Food industry side streams

  Wastewater treatment plant sewage

  Slaughterhouse waste

  Fish processing waste.

VIABILITY OF THE PROJECT

Investment returns in 5 to 6 years

Biogas plants with long life and bare minimum maintenance

Plant operates 365 days irrespective to climatic changes

Realisation of multiple streams of revenue through multiple yield

Multiple yield includes Bio electricity, Bio CNG, Bio CO2, Bio Sulphur powder, Bio fertilizers and carbon credits.

  Trusted Partnership

  Credibility fulfilled

An investment in green energy is an investment to green future.

ANAEROBIC DIGESTION

Anaerobic digestion is a biological process in which biomass is converted in to bioenergy by anaerobic bacteria in the absence of oxygen. This involves four key processes;

  Hydrolysis

  Acidogenesis

  Acetogenesis

  Methanogensis

Our Biogas plant implies

Multi stage thermophillicbiomethanation optimized at 550C.

  Biogas cooling at 350 C.

  Concealed digester tanks.

BIOGAS UPDRADATION BY PSA

This technique provides 97% pure Biomethane (Bio CNG).

The Carbondioxide from the Biogas is adsorbed and regenerated by the PSA system.

H2S and residual gases are scrubbed.

ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT OF BIOGAS

The use of biogas as a fuel is undoubtedly a positive environmental impact. It is 100% renewable and therefore carbon-neutral, its combustion does not generate any particulate matter and it does not contain sulfur or heavy metals. Biogas refined to biomethane is suitable as transparent fuel and can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 85-95% throughout the entire production process. In addition biogas production prevents the release of methane into the atmosphere resulting from the decomposition of organic waste. This is an ecological effort in itself, as methane is 25 times more potent than carbon dioxide. Biogas production is part of a waste management
